Ahh, Save-The-Dates…the invitation before “the invitation”…

There is no set rule on whether or not you need to send out Save-the-Dates, but there are many reasons that a couple may choose to keep with this tell-tale tradition. Whether it be a courteous gesture to allow guests time to schedule and save in advance (particularly if it’s for a destination wedding) or just a way to formally announce an engagement, sending out Save-The-Dates doesn’t have to be something that cuts deep into your wedding budget. So if you are keen on sending these out, here are some ways to save money while doing so:

  1. Check out the Sales: If you want to send out traditional paper-based Save-the-Dates, they don’t have to cost you an arm and a leg. Stationary shops have sales that pop up throughout the year and many stores have coupons you can use to lower the cost. For instance, from now until the end of June, Wedding Paper Divas if offering 40% off for Save-the-Dates that are already on Clearance (which basically means you’ll be saving up to 60% off). Click here for this deal, using the code EXTRA40SD.

  2. E-vites: If paper stationary invitations are not in the budget, cut the cost by sending your  Save-the-Dates by email. There are several websites designed for sending out online invitations that you can customize to your liking, such as on Paperless Post, which is one of my favourites. Using online invitations is fast, easy, and in most cases don’t carry a cost. Online Save-the-Dates are also a great alternative for those looking for an environmentally friendly option.

  3. Hand them out in person: Typically people who are invited to pre-wedding events, such as an engagement party, are people who will also receive a wedding invite. So Y Knot hand out your Save-the-Dates as part of your engagement party bombonieres? Or better yet, Y Knot turn your pre-wedding party favours into Save-the-Dates themselves. For example, beau-coup.com has cute, customizable favours, such as personalized Hershey’s kisses that you can give out with your wedding date on it. And, until April 8, you can get 25% off these favours using the code JOYFUL.
